The first thing I want to do, before I start building my list, is to finish this blog. Before you build your blog, you will have to find a reliable (and not so expensive) webhost. After reading a whole bunch of reviews, I realized that the best choice for beginners is HostGator. The second thing was (of course) to download the latest version of WordPress – you can do it HERE. After that, I had to install WordPress and…believe me, if you choose HostGator to host your WP blog and follow a 5 minute WP installation manual, you won’t have problems with installation.
Next step is to make a custom layout for your blog. Instead of spending days to design a brand new theme, I decide to find a simple and free WordPress theme. NewWPThemes was always my best source of free WP themes, so I have chosen one of their free WP themes: Bistro WP Theme. It’s clean, simple, ads-ready and it loads very fast. What else do you need? The last thing you need is to install various WP plugins to stop spammers, rank better on search engine pages, create content faster etc. Here is a list of free WordPress plugins I installed on this blog:
WordPress SEO by Yoast – This is a number one WordPress plugin because it really improves your WordPress SEO and you must install it if you want better content and a fully optimized website/blog. It allows you to see a rendering of what your post or page will look like in the search results, whether your title is too long or too short and your meta description makes sense in the context of a search result. This WP plugin will help you not only increase rankings but also increase the click through for organic search results. It includes on-page content analysis, XML sitemaps and much more.
Jetpack by WordPress.com – Jetpack is a WordPress plugin that supercharges your WordPress site with awesome features like those on WordPress.com.
Akismet – This plugin checks your comments against a web service to see if they look like spam and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” admin screen. You’ll need an Akismet.com API key to this plugin. Keys are free for personal blogs, and if you have a business/commercial website, you will have to pay for subscription.
Follow Nofollow Control – This plugin allows you to set a nofollow atribute on all your external links in your posts. This will help you keep your website’s Google PageRank.
GetSocial – This plugin is an easy way for your visitors to share your content. It gives them a beautiful floating bar that will follow them wherever they go.
AdRotate – This is the best and simplest plugin for WP that enables you to manage and track ads on your website. Install and activate the plugin, enter a few ads and use shortcodes or PHP code to put and track ads wherever you want.
Facebook Like Box Widget – This plugin enables Facebook Page owners to get likes and comments from their own WordPress blog. The plugin enables users to see how many other people like your page, and which of their friends like it too. They can also read recent posts from your page and like your page with a single click.
Shareaholic – The SEXIEST social bookmarking plugin EVER!!!
Make sure You bookmark this post because I will update it every time I install a cool plugin.
